Award Winning Road and Rail Asset Performance Solution for Lebuhraya Borneo Utara

Challenge: Borneo Highway PDP (BHP), a government-appointed project delivery partner, faced the challenge of effectively managing the complex implementation of Phase 1 of the Pan Borneo Highway Sabah project. With a total distance of 706km and multiple construction activities involved, BHP needed a robust solution to streamline design, construction, and handover processes. The project had a strict deadline for completion, adding to the complexity of the challenge.

Solution: Digile (previously Reveron Consulting), implemented a comprehensive solution for BHP to manage the entire project lifecycle of the Pan Borneo Highway, Sabah. The solution focused on efficient design and construction management, adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) principles, and integrated business processes for enhanced asset lifecycle management.

The key components of the solution included:

  1. Project Information Management System: Digile developed a Project Information Management System with a Common Data Environment (CDE). This system supplied a centralized platform for effective collaboration and information sharing among stakeholders, ensuring seamless integration between design and construction management processes.
  2. BIM Adoption: The solution incorporated BIM principles, enabling BHP to use digital modeling and visualization technologies. This allowed for enhanced coordination, clash detection, and improved decision-making during the design and construction phases, leading to better project outcomes.
  3. Dashboards for Monitoring and Control: Digile developed customized dashboards to enable real-time monitoring and control of project progress, quality assurance, health, safety, and risk management. These dashboards provided BHP with actionable insights and a holistic view of project performance, facilitating informed decision-making at various levels.

Results: The implementation of Digile’s solution delivered remarkable results for BHP and the Pan Borneo Highway Sabah project, including:

  • Streamlined Processes: The Project Information Management System and BIM adoption facilitated seamless collaboration, enhanced coordination, and efficient design and construction management processes. This resulted in improved productivity and reduced delays.
  • Enhanced Asset Lifecycle Management: The integrated solution enabled better asset lifecycle management, allowing BHP to plan and support project assets effectively. This contributed to long-term operational efficiency and reduced maintenance costs.
  • Real-time Monitoring and Control: The customized dashboards provided BHP with real-time insights into project progress, quality assurance, health, safety, and risk management. This empowered stakeholders to make informed decisions promptly, ensuring project milestones were met and risks were mitigated.
  • Timely Project Completion: With Digile’s solution in place, BHP successfully completed Phase 1 of the Pan Borneo Highway Sabah project by the scheduled deadline of December 31, 2021.

Technology Used: The solution implemented by Digile used a range of industry-leading technologies, including:

  1. Bentley ProjectWise Design Integration: A comprehensive design integration platform that facilitated seamless collaboration and information sharing among project stakeholders.
  2. Bentley ProjectWise Construction Management: A robust construction management solution that streamlined workflows and improved coordination during the construction phase.
  3. Bentley Facilities Planner: A powerful tool for effective asset lifecycle management, ensuring efficient planning and maintenance of project assets.
  4. Bentley MicroStation: A leading CAD software that enabled precise design modeling and documentation.
  5. Microsoft Power BI Dashboards: Customized dashboards developed using Microsoft Power BI, supplying real-time data visualization and insights for project monitoring and control.
